Meet Max the guide dog. He’s a very special dog; not only because he’s a German shepherd, but because he lives in a computerized world and as he guides his avatar partners who cannot see, he speaks to them. For the uninitiated, an avatar, in this context, is a personae created by visitors to Second Life, the popular three-dimensional, computerized world.

Max is an information machine and in addition to his formidable guiding capabilities, he keeps his partners up-to-date about their surroundings by using text to speech technology. And like “traditional” guide dogs, Max is opening up new worlds for his partners and giving them the tools they need to live a richer life;in this case, a Second Life.
