Two Walks for Fidelco: Two Chances to Celebrate!
Fidelco’s 50th anniversary gives special meaning to our 2010 Walks for Fidelco. That’s right—Walks! The first takes place on Saturday, May 15th at 8:30 a.m. at Manchester Community College in Manchester, Connecticut.
When you step off at our Walk, you’ll salute 50 years of Fidelco providing freedom and independence to people with visual disabilities. Linda Wessel, a Fidelco client, recently sent letter to her friends and family that said, in part, “The Fidelco family has been part of my life for the last 26 years. They have provided me with three wonderful German shepherd guide dogs. Without Fidelco, I would not have the independence I have today.”
Keep Linda’s words in mind as you enjoy our Walk and participate in the many activities that are planned for the day; including a free concert by the Diamond Collection, New England’s premier Neil Diamond tribute band. Bring a chair or blanket, and plan to pack a lunch or purchase one from our food vendor. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the MCC auditorium.
Our next Walk, the first-ever Walk for Fidelco-Boston, takes place on Saturday, May 22nd from 9:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m. at Castle Island on Boston’s South Shore. Boston Harbor is a stone’s throw away and the views are simply breathtaking. Our Walk site features paved walking trails, playgrounds for the kids and a variety of picnic areas. Castle Island is easily accessible by car, bus or Boston’s famous “T.”
You can register for one or both Walks at www.fidelco.org; so spread the word and get friends and family to sponsor you for the events in Manchester and Boston. The more you or your team raise, the nicer the prizes! But, it’s not about the prizes or how many miles you walk. It’s about celebrating Fidelco’s 50th anniversary and the people, like Linda Wessel, whose guide dogs give them the freedom and independence that we often take for granted.
