The three most common types of bequests are specific, percentage, and residual bequests.  A specific bequest is a gift of a specific dollar amount or item of value.   A percentage bequest is a gift of a certain percentage of your estate or another asset.  A residuary bequest is a gift of all or a portion of the reminder of your estate after other obligations or bequests have been satisfied.
