Stephen H. Matheson Memorial FundSteve Matheson (1947-2018)

Fidelco Guide Dogs mourns the passing of Steve Matheson, a dedicated Board Member whose legacy of achievement – combined with great humility and humor – will endure. Steve will be remembered as Fidelco’s first non-founder Chairman and Director Emeritus – just two accomplishments among an extraordinary list that spans his life. Steve and his wife, Karen, first became involved with Fidelco as volunteer puppy raisers and his passion for our life-changing mission was evident in everything he did on Fidelco’s behalf in the more than thirteen years he served on the Board.

After graduation from the Naval Academy, Steve served aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown, and was honored in 1968 when the ship’s crew picked up the returning Apollo 8 spacecraft, meeting astronauts Borman, Lovell and Anders. Steve later graduated from Harvard Business School, but none of these accomplishments surpassed the overwhelming pride he had for his family. His grandchildren were his greatest joy and he reveled in cheering them on, both literally on the sports field and figuratively, in life.

Fidelco is forever grateful to Steve for his leadership, commitment and grace. We will be inspired by the indelible mark he has left on our organization for years to come.

To honor Steve’s legacy, a future Fidelco Guide Dog will be named “Steve.” To make a gift in honor of Steve, please visit here.
